Career Prospects

Doctoral graduates of the Chinese University of Physics in Hong Kong, with their solid scientific skills and interdisciplinary background, are well favoured in many fields. The career path is wide, with initial annual pay generally ranging from 400,000 to 800,000 Hong Kong dollars.

In terms of career choices, doctoral graduates mainly go to the following areas:

  • Academia and scientific institutions: Graduates may enter universities or research institutes at home and abroad for post-doctoral studies, step-by-step promotion to professor or researcher and lead front-line subjects. The wage scale for such positions400,000–500,000Hong Kong currency, with its advantages in academic freedom and long-term influence, is highly competitive.

  • High-tech industries: in the areas of semiconductor, phototechnology and new energy sources, doctors often act as research and development engineers or technical advisers to address core process issues. In the case of the Bay of Hong Kong, for example, the annual salary amounts to HK$ 600,000 and career development is closely aligned with industry innovation needs.

  • Science and technology entrepreneurship and advice: Some graduates choose to start a business, convert technology into products (e.g. new materials, detection equipment) or enter consultancy firms to provide science and technology strategy services. Income fluctuations are high, but their potential is wide enough for business thinkers.
